Hope & Strength - Women of Africa!

WomEnchant Chorus and Drummers announce!

HOPE & STRENGTH - WOMEN OF AFRICA!
World AIDS Day Observance and Benefit Concert!
featuring WomEnchant Chorus and Drummers!
with special guest, Leanne Vida!

Monday, November 30th, 2015!
7.30 pm!
In Partnership with First Grantham United Church!

In the Spring 2015 edition of Grassroots, the newsletter published by the Stephen Lewis
Foundation (SLF), the focus is on Resilience, and portrays the African people’s ability
to cope with the AIDS crisis and to move forward with their lives. The narrative states:
There is a hidden story in response to the AIDS pandemic on the African
continent. It is a story about the remarkable progress that communities have
made, and the deeply human changes that people experience with the support of
their community based organizations.

For more than a decade the Stephen Lewis Foundation has been the relentless
Ambassador for the eradication of HIV/AIDS in Africa. As the disease ravished the
continent, over 17million children were orphaned. The pandemic forced grandmothers,
many of whom were themselves ill, into taking on the responsibilities of caring for their
own biological grandchildren, and often for other orphaned children, while coping with
the inherent stigma and discrimination associated with the disease.

Although medication was initially made available there has always been the problem of
insufficient funds needed for the critical work to attain the return to normal, vibrant living.
The approach of HOLISTIC SUPPORT which nurtures the wellsprings of resilience has
been enabled by SLF, and includes work in education, physical security, income
generation, community connection, food security, psychosocial care, gender equality
and medical treatment, which are resulting in stability and dignity at home and in the
communities.

World AIDS Day is December 1st each year. In the Niagara region and surrounding
areas public attention has been drawn to the HIV/AIDS pandemic in Africa starting in
2004. Through the initiative of Gloria Simon-Gould, then a member of St. Andrew’s
United Church, Port Dalhousie, representatives of various religious faiths gathered to
collectively focus on healing the energy which had created the pandemic.

Since 2008 WomEnchant Chorus and Drummers, has been assisting in the efforts to
raise funds for the work of the Stephen Lewis Foundation. The performance, which
features the choir has been a source of increased awareness and money raised for the
SLF each year. The choir whose mission addresses issues of peace, social justice,
equity and the environment, will be in concert at FIRST GRANTHAM UNITED
CHURCH, 415 Linwell Road, St. Catharines, on Monday, November 30th, 2015, at 7.30
pm. Doors open at 6.00pm for Heart to Heart Meditation, Silent Auction and Penny
Auction. All proceeds from the event will go to the important work of the Stephen Lewis
Foundation, particularly with grandmothers and orphaned children.

Tickets are Adults $20, Children under 12 - Free, and are available from
First Grantham United Church:
[*CONTENT REMOVED*] Tickets will also be available at the door.
Refreshments will be served after the concert.
